In 4 years of rolling my own I’ve experienced maybe a dozen of the $10 or less injectors and have come to the conclusion that the EXP1000 is worth the $20. It’s easier on my hands to inject the tobacco and works well even with the dry shake at the bottom of the bag. It’s tough, my other rollers broke or started losing their shape. This one I can cram enough tobacco in a tube to last 20 minutes, over and over again without worrying if there will be tobacco someplace that needs tweezers to unjam.

where can you purchase the machine?

I disagree with Russ. I have not yet tried the EXP 1000, but have tried many of the inexpensive injectors he has dismissed as junk. Some ARE junk. Especially the ones from the far East. Unfortunately, they are the ones most commonly encountered at the local tobacconist with popular brand names on them. (Higher profit margin) Don’t be fooled by the brand name. Look for country of origin. (That goes for about anything, not just injector machines) If it says made in Germany, it will work nicely. I have a ten year old Gizeh injector that has made at least a thousand cigarettes and it works perfectly. My Mascotte is nearly identical to the Gizeh except for different contours and it makes a perfect cigarette every time. Although nearly as compact as the Gizeh and Mascotte, my Efka “El Rey” injector is meant to sit on a tabletop. Very slightly slower to operate, it makes a cigarette that looks factory made. For tabletop use, it is a better value than the Gizeh Golden Tip Producter, which is just a Gizeh Silver Tip Boy with an enlarged base. I gave my tube-tearing Supermatic away. What a huge piece of rubbish. I could have bought seven or eight Mascotte or El Rey injectors for what that oversized, under-engineered rickety Chinese wonder machine cost! A six dollar Silver Tip Boy or El Rey will make a better cigarette and is faster and will fit in your pocket. I have an older Riszla, which was made by Gizeh, and it is an excellent performer. The Escort (made in Indonesia) is a fair injector. The ZigZag and Top injectors went to the trash where they belong.
It all depends on tobacco moisture and how much you compress. I like a loose cigarette but still have to be careful with a fresh tin. As the tin gets drier, I can increase compression a bit, and get my most enjoyable smokes about halfway through the tin. Occasionally, I’ll be working several tins of different types, one will get a bit dry, and I will have to put a sliver of apple in a tin for a few hours or overnight. Small sliver or it’ll get too wet to burn well. I use only shag type tobaccos. I fill the end of the injector near the filter tube first. Oh yeah, lots of pouch tobacco is way too dry from the onset. The tinned tobacco always seems fresh and moist and I wouldn’t buy it any other way. If your local smoke shop won’t order you a German injector, you can find them all over the internet at low prices.

Well, I just got the improved version of the Supermatic, and it’s made in Canada.

I was using the Escort, which required the use of an included tamper as an extra step, and it was difficult to judge the same level of packing each time, so it jambed sometimes. Also it was akward to operate the slide mechanism, and it never packed all the way to the end of the tube.

When I got the Supermatic, I made one stick too loose, and one too tight, and every one since has been fine, and packed all the way to the end! And it’s way faster.

I got the premier quick fill. It’s not hard at all on the hands to operate, but that all I can say good about it. It will not fill to the filter. Adding more tobacco in an attempt to fill the tube just causes the tube to fall off earliy. Needs alot of temping to work. Think I’ll try the PREMIER EXCEL. Has anyone trid this one?

  6. John in Vegas Says:

I’ve been using the Preimier Excel for 6 mos, now. So far it is the best machine I’ve ever used. Several handhelds and a supermatic have found their way to the trash can or closet now. I roll about 30 sticks a day for my wife and myself and have never had a problem. All my friends with Top-0-matics have tried my Excel and bought their own the next day.

The XP1000 is around $20 and it is well worth the money. I works perfectly with King size tubes and fills them to look like a pre made smoke. I would recommend this machine over all others!
