Tobacco storage; This is important to keep tobacco fresh and from breaking down to dust. I now roll str8 from the resealable bag. I have also met with a manufacture that will be supplying pouches that one will place into their tobacco. It will keep the moisture levels constent and keep PH balance perfect. In high humid plces it also takes out moisture to always give perfect balance. Suprizing enough they are reasonable in cost.
I tried the jar and many different types of storage, best was use from bag squish out the air and reseal immediately. They do make disc’s that go into bag if you find them use them until this other product hits the market.

A small slice of carrot works as well as any disk or other humidifying product. Cut an 1/8th inch slice about 1/2″ in diameter and place in about the middle of the resealable pouch, which I agree is the best way to keep tobacco fresh and the purfect moisture.

Even older, dried out tobacco can be revitalized using the carrot. I found a partial pouch that had gotten “lost” in the back of my kitchen cabinet where I store my “doings”. (I often buy the 1 oz. from AmThrust to try diff flavors) The tobacco was literally dust, in string form. I tossed in a carrot slice just to see what would happen. The next day to my utter amazment it smoked well, tasted “good” (not fresh, but good) and I finished the pouch.

How long will un open tobacco last?

We’ve been using a slice of bread in our air tight containers to moisten our tobacco when it begins to dry. One slice for large quantity and half slice for smaller quantity.

Just recently bought a couple brown sugar bears, basically terra cotta disks that are meant to be used to moisten brown sugar when it dries. Just put the disk/bear in water for about 10 minutes, then lay on top of your tobacco over night. Either of these optioins works great!

But neither is perfect. If you have a small amount of tobacco, and you leave either one in the container too long, your tobacco will be a bit to damp. Then you struggle to get the tobacco machine to work properly. But, it’s better than trying to roll your own with dried out tobacco!

    Happy smokin’!

Can you store tobacco in the refrigerator? If I buy a pound at a time should I just leave it sealed with a carrot or Lettuce leaf inside the sealed bag? Thank you I just started rolling my own.

Don’t use the refrigetrator, most have humidity control and will extract the moisture. The freezer will work just let it reach room temp before you roll. I still prefer a vacuum sealed container with a piece of carrot and keeping it in the cabinet.
